HELLO,

ABOUT ME

With over 20 years of experience in graphic and web design, I’ve crafted innovative solutions across print, digital, and gaming industries. From creating impactful branding and marketing materials to developing intuitive websites, I combine creativity with technical expertise to deliver designs & solutions that are memorable, engaging and resonate with their intended audience.

Driven by a passion for design, detail and innovation, I thrive on creating & transforming ideas into polished, professional results that exceed expectations.

My Graphic Design career started within the Print Industry working for a small handful of Commercial Printers – which eventually led to becoming an Operations Manager for (at the time) one of Australia’s biggest online Commercial Printers.

From these experiences my knowledge of Digital & Offset presses grew – and more importantly my knowledge of their capabilties – not everything you can create onscreen can printed to the same effect. This experience then honed in on my Graphic Design abilities and I was able to visualise how a finished printed product would look and feel like in yours hands.

As these businesses grew my focus then turned to Digital Design and creating professional online promotions and user friendly experiences. From animated gifs, promotional digital banners to website design, layout and navigation.

I have been creating websites ever since getting my first computer at 13 years old. Back then web design was really in its infancy and built purely in HTML with very little styling, lots of fluro RBG colours and hunting the world wide web for javascript effects like ‘mouse trails’.

Fast forward almost 25 years later and I am still creating websites, focusing on key elements such as presenting information in pleasing ways, ease of navigation, speed and something I like to call ‘a little bit extra’ – an element which doesn’t necessarily have any function other than to be pleasing to the eye (take the geometric background you’re currently viewing) – all combined in unison to create the overall design.

My real strengths with web design include identifying and rectifying problems, whether it be function or design related and putting myself in a perspective customers point of view to create meaningful experiences.

The 3 components that make up any digital app / game or website are design, user interface and user experience.

It’s important that the design (and content) will capture your target audience, however it is also equally important that your end-user can navigate comfortably, accurately and intuitively. With the design and UI locked in, the user experience becomes the main focus. Content, Design, Speed, Ease of use all make up the User Experience.

I personally love the thought of these 3 components working in unison, one will affect the other so foreward planning and thinking ahead play a great part. It can be a difficult task; the UI should never be compromised for the design, nor the design for the UI. It’s a balancing act that when done correctly gives a project a sense of purpose and overall completion. When that balance is off any end-user will know this, switch off and will hope for updates or just find an alternative.

Logo Design is something I thoroughly enjoy. Being able to set the Design and create not only a logo but creative elements which will flow through the Branding Guidelines and will continue to be used throughout the rest of their marketing collateral and stationery is a real highlight for me.

While some designs come instantly or organically, others require research usually involving the branding of the companies past, their competitors, the sense or feeling they want to portray to the majority of their customers & clients. There is no use for creating something that looks and feels like a global enterprise with offices across the world when its a small family run business. Coming across as the biggest doesn’t necessarily mean the best.

My designs always start with the typography and usually in simple black (even when brand colours are given in the brief). Working just in black (and percentages of black) let you concentrate on the typography and its relationship with an icon, a shape or a design element. Only once everything seems balanced or in place does the colour get applied.

Digital Design is fast becoming one of my favourite forms of Graphic Design. It does not have the limitations of Print Design (CMYK), rather working in a vibrant RGB Colour Space without having to consider the limitations of not only CMYK but also what an Offset / Digital printer can produce effectively and accurately.

Added to that a design can come to life in many ways – whether it’s through its vibrancy, through motion / animation or even through a storyboard sequence using multiple artboards to show and expand on information.

I have been fortunate enough to have designed many digital elements for an array of Websites, eDM’s , End Frames, Video Thumbnails, Motion Graphics, Banners, Digital Billboards & Social Media.
